How is Terro Liquid Ant Bait supposed to work?

By May 27, 2019 6 Comments

I had some ants in my bathroom and put a Terro Ant Bait. The package says they’re supposed to carry the bait back to the colony. They started arriving en masse so I put a second one.

But what happened is that all the ants filled the baits and died inside. I guess the entire colony followed because I have two baits that are filled with dead ants.

Were the ants in my house just super weak? Is that how Terro works?

Colonies are huge. They wouldn’t fit in a bait trap.

You’ll have dead ones in the tray but the intent is to have them carry it back to colony. Every August we deal with them and the terro baits work great.

    The secret ingredient is borax.

Some will get caught up in the goo and die, but many more will make it back to the nest. If your baits have a bunch dead ants in them, it’s working.

Some will die in the traps, but for every one that died, there are hundreds more that went into the bait station, took poison and carried it back to the nest.

Yep it takes a bit of time for the bait to get dispersed throughout the colony, but those baits do a good job and I’ve had success with them every year. Usually notice a decrease in activity in the first week and by week 2 or 3 they’re pretty much done for.
