Schedule 20 or 40 for perforated PVC foundation French drain?

By August 8, 2019 4 Comments

I’ve heard 20 can collapse, but 40 is not readily available where I live. I can order it, but it’s more expensive. I have about a 3′ x 8′ trench around my foundation that will be backfilled all the way up (minus 12″ at the top) with washed sewer rock. Is 20 going to do well or should I opt for the 40?

Seems like a lot of work just to cheap out on the pipe

The sewer and drain pipes found outside the structure, like side sewer, surface drains, foundation drains, and downspout drains are *normally* a different dimensional specification from sch 40, which was originally derrived for steel pipes more than a century ago.
For foundation drains look for products stamped 2729.

Ohio masonry contractor, there is sch. 20 and sch. 35 that should be readily available. You want sch. 35. Call a drainage supply or masonry supply! They will come in perf or solid and I can get them for about 13 bucks for 10 ft.
